In short
Transport comes two ways: chauffeur-driven as standard, or self-drive with a valid licence, an International Driving Permit and a refundable deposit.

Neither option is the upgrade. Which one suits depends on the day, and the desk will say so if you ask.
The fleet
What tends to be available
Vehicle classes rather than a stock list — availability moves, so ask the desk for the specific date.
Executive sedans
Mercedes S-Class and similar. The default for evenings and airport runs.
Private MPV
Alphard and Vellfire. More room, and the quietest of the three.
SUV & convertible
For longer days inland, or an open car along the coast.
Self-drive
Three things self-drive needs
Not negotiable, and worth sorting before you land rather than at the counter.

A valid licence
Your national driving licence, current and not expiring during the rental.

An International Driving Permit
The IDP is issued in your own country before you travel. It cannot be arranged here.

A refundable deposit
Held for the rental and returned when the car comes back as it left.
Without all three, self-drive is not available — but a chauffeur can be arranged the same day.
